Will There Be Shooting?

As I hear over and over about the natural disasters going on and the amounts of people displaced. I keep wondering in my mind, will they be shooting at folks?

I check the news just to see but I don't see many black or brown faces and I think a few things.

1. The disaster must not be as bad as Katrina that people don't need to literally flee on foot to another county.

2. Everyone has enough money to save themselves so they don't need any help.

3. The country has learned it's lesson after Katrina and has responded in a timely and concise manner so everything is under control.

But still, nagging in the back of my mind I wonder. If I could conduct a test and put a lot of black and brown faces in place of the white ones would news stories change to coverages of looting and would families still get shot at for seeking shelter? Even AFTER the mock, shock and outrage of the white community after Katrina.

I bet you 10.00 dollars we PoC would still be getting shot at while looking for help. It only seems like we learned our lesson because the areas hit are majority white.

Not that I wish another disaster on anyone, but give it time. Black and brown folks I beg of you to start saving some cash in a fireproof/waterproof box, food, water, medicines etc. Because I think we'll be on our next time, like were last time, like we have been for all time.

Hello Lhunfindel:

Interesting post about disasters.
I would like to also mention the false news media reports re Katrina about black people shooting at rescue helicopters and black men raping women and children; and how a certain segment of society was most eager to believe these lies! I don't put a whole lot of stock, or faith, in mainstream media reports, especially when the reports are about non-white people.

Because I believe America is in the early stages of what will soon be cataclysmic times, a lot of folks simply don't have money to set aside for an emergency, especially if they're living in a cardboard box, tent, shelter, or some other type of unconventional housing. Witness the record breaking numbers of foreclosures currently sweeping across the land.

For those that do have some money, conventional saving is a risky business. Banks are failing. And also, what $100 purchased yesterday may cost $150, or more, tomorrow.

A fireproof box is probably a good idea. Keep in mind though that the people who didn't prepare for a prolonged crisis may become desperate and wish to separate you from your goodies. So one should consider safe places to hide or keep stuff (outside of the home). Banks (safety deposit boxes and saving accounts) aren't the safe places they once were.

If I had a few dollars, I'd buy food NOW (because prices are rising fast) that has a long shelf/storage life. Necessities like toilet paper, flashlight batteries, water, a small portable radio and other essentials might also be purchased before further price increases. If the dollar were to totally collapse, or if the shelves at the supermarket suddenly became bare, I would still have something to eat, instead of some worthless paper to burn for heat.

Yes, the country has learned some lessons after Katrina, but they may not be the lessons one may think.

If a soul's heart is inclined towards the Creator, now is the time to wake up to Heaven's realty and do whatever He asks or instructs you to do. That is the only true and safe place to be..IN GOD, and GOD IN you.

Have you seen Spike Lee's When the Levee's Broke?

It is quite sad the way black people were treated by the police in LA and other states when trying to save their own lives.

As we know most of them were not stealing and raping and pillaging, just saving their families.
